1. Memory in the Religious Life – The Case of Tish’a Beav

In several days, Elijah’s summer school on memory in the religious life will begin. Memory offers us a rich perspective on understanding each of our religious traditions and particular festivals and celebrations. An example of this is provided in a recent blog post by Alon Goshen-Gottstein, exploring the Jewish commemoration day of Tisha Be’av, when the Jerusalem Temple was destroyed, from the perspective of memory. The history of memorialization as well as contemporary political realities in Israel are better appreciated through the theoretical lens of memory. Click here for the post.

2. Singing for Peace in Jerusalem

Last issue we reported on the Koololam event, at the Tower of David in Jerusalem, that brought together a thousand Jews, Christians and Muslims in a moment of common song. The official clip has now been released, and you can enjoy the event.

The meeting was preceded by an interfaith gathering of religious leaders, reflecting on being together and on the meaning of song in the religious life.
