In March 2000, in conjunction with Pope John Paul II's Jubillee pilgrimage, the Elijah Interfaith Institute held a conference on the theme: Religions and Repentance - growth within religion traditions, facing a new era. Conference papers were submitted to the Pope in advance of the meeting. The conference explored ways in which repentance is relevant not only for individuals within the religious traditions, but for the religions themselves. Conference presenters explore how religions can grow within themselves, in a movement of purification toward their highest goals.
