Interreligious Summer School for Seminarians and Theology StudentsNew York City, June 11-22, 2012
Yeshivat Chovevei Torah rabbinical seminary, The Elijah Interfaith Institute and the Auburn Seminary, with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, will conduct a two week interreligious summer school session on the topic of "Religious Leadership - A Multi Religious Perspective" in New York City from June 11-22, 2012. The summer school will bring together Jewish and Christian seminarians (and future religious leaders and scholars from other traditions as well) in an intensive study and dialogue program. The program includes lectures, text study, dialogue and a variety of activities outside the classroom. The program is tuition-free, and students must commit to the entire program. The program will take place on the campuses of Auburn and Union Theological Seminaries in Manhattan (121st and Broadway). Click here for the schedule and list of faculty. It will use the lens of religious leadership as a means of presenting and exploring the particularities of several religious traditions, Abrahamic and Eastern. The Elijah Interfaith Institute is an internationally respected leader in interreligious education and especially in cross-faith theological exploration. This interreligious summer school is designed for Jewish and Christian seminarians and advanced theological students. The program is offered free of charge. Priority will be given to students who are willing to make a commitment to a program consisting of the following components: 1. Participation in the June 11-22, 2012 summer school; 2. A series of presentations, during the 2012-2013 school year, with partner students from the program in religious communities and campuses. 3. Participation in the May 27-June 7, 2013 summer school, devoted to the question of "Religious Truth". Participation in all components will award participants with a certificate of a trained moderator in interreligious dialogue. To apply, please send a 1-2 page statement detailing your previous experience and interest in interreligious dialogue and how you might benefit from this program to Alon Goshen Gottstein.
