In the Buddhist tradition, there is a chant expressing this acknowledgement, recited daily by meditators: “All harmful karma ever committed by me since of old, on account of my beginningless greed, anger and ignorance, born of my body, mouth and consciousness, now I atone it all.” Here, “atone” indicates being at-one with all the harmful karma one has committed or said or thought, and taking responsibility for their consequences in one’s own and in others’ lives. This is an underlying component of the path of awakening.
