This session is a discussion among the different lecturers on several issues that had emerged over the course of several lectures. The first question discussed concerns the difference between a mysticism of will and mysticism based on love. The latter is most often associated with Christianity, while the former is often related to Judaism. Animism and Hinduism emphasized a combination of the two approaches, while Islamic Sufism puts more of a premium on the love of the Sufi for his Beloved. This issue developed into a discussion on the distinction between high and low religion, popular and elite, often situated along socio-economic lines.

A second topic is the question of whether God is necessary for mysticism at all. Buddhism as a religion breaks down this model of a theistic-based mystical tradition, while the Christian opinion was also that even an atheist can have a genuine selfless experience of mystery and self-transcendence. A final issue raised what that of the possibility of participating in another's religious system without adopting all of its beliefs.
